Man accused of forging uncle’s sign for new GST registration

A liver transplant patient has accused his nephew and sister-in-law of forging his signature, withholding business accounts and using fabricated documents to obtain a new GST registration for a family-run business, causing him a loss of around Rs 30 lakh.

According to the complaint, the victim underwent a liver transplant and remained bedridden for much of 2024. After his health improved, he visited Hemraj Flour Mill in Changodar in April 2024 and sought access to accounts pending since July 2023. However, his nephew, Dhrumil Modi, allegedly told him on multiple occasions that the accounts were yet to be finalised.

The complainant stated that when he visited the mill on November 19, 2024, Dhrumil and his sister Shaishvi allegedly prevented him from entering the premises. He then called the police, who informed the duo that they could not stop him from entering the jointly owned factory.

He later approached the local police station, where he was advised to approach the civil court.

The matter allegedly came to light when the complainant discovered that the GST registration of M/s BH Modi, a sole proprietorship in the name of his brother Vijay Modi, had been cancelled and replaced with a new GST registration.

The complainant alleged that Dhrumil forged his signature on a consent letter dated July 18, 2023, purportedly authorising the use of the factory premises. The document was allegedly notarised by Rita Gandhi and submitted online to the GST Department the following day.

According to the complaint, he was admitted to the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre from June 9 to July 24, 2023, making it impossible for him to have signed the document on the date mentioned.

He has accused Dhrumil and his sister-in-law, Meeta Modi, of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and illegally taking control of the factory premises.
