
The Government of India has underscored its commitment to fostering scientific research in the medical field by granting significant income tax exemptions to two prominent institutions: the Mazumdar Shaw Medical Foundation and M/s Institute of Advanced Medical Research & Innovations Forum. These approvals, issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) through Notifications No. 02/2025 and 03/2025 dated October 15, 2025, respectively, will provide a substantial boost to their research endeavors.
Both foundations have been approved for “Scientific Research” under clause (iia) of sub-section (1) of section 35 of the Income Tax Act, 1961, read with Rule 5F of the Income Tax Rules 1962. The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), Delhi, conveyed these approvals, recognizing the vital contributions these organizations make to medical science.
The M/s Mazumdar Shaw Medical Foundation, located at NH Health City, Bangalore South, Karnataka, India, will benefit from these exemptions for five consecutive Assessment Years (AY), commencing from AY 2025-26 up to AY 2029-30.
Similarly, M/s Institute of Advanced Medical Research & Innovations Forum, registered in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, also receives this crucial income tax exemption for five consecutive Assessment Years, spanning from A.Y. 2025-26 up to A.Y. 2029-30.
An explanatory memorandum accompanying both notifications confirms that no person is adversely affected by granting retrospective effect to these approvals.
These exemptions are expected to empower both foundations to further invest in cutting-edge research, ultimately contributing to advancements in healthcare and medical innovation in India.
