Promoting Simplified GST Compliance and Ease of Doing Business

The availability of multiple digital payment modes is expected to improve taxpayer convenience, reduce dependence on conventional banking channels and facilitate timely discharge of GST liabilities. By allowing taxpayers to choose between UPI, Debit Cards and Credit Cards, the initiative provides greater flexibility in payment arrangements, particularly for businesses, MSMEs and individual taxpayers.

The initiative also supports the Government’s broader objectives of Digital India, enhanced payment facilitation, simplified GST compliance and Ease of Doing Business. The increased availability of electronic payment options is expected to strengthen taxpayer services and contribute to a more accessible, technology-driven GST administration.

Procedure for Making GST Payments Through Digital Modes

Taxpayers may access the payment facility through the GST Common Portal at www.gst.gov.in, navigate to the payment services, create the required GST challan and select an available digital payment option, including UPI or Debit/Credit Card, as applicable. The transaction can then be completed through the relevant payment channel, subject to the availability of the facility through the participating bank.

Taxpayers should verify the applicable payment mode, bank availability and any transaction charges displayed before completing the payment and should retain the payment confirmation for reconciliation with their Electronic Cash Ledger.

Continued Expansion of Digital GST Services

The expansion and availability of digital payment infrastructure reflect the ongoing efforts of GSTN to improve the functionality of the GST Common Portal and simplify compliance requirements for taxpayers.

The initiative is expected to contribute towards a more efficient, convenient and user-friendly tax payment ecosystem, strengthening voluntary compliance and supporting the Government’s vision of a digitally empowered economy.
