India’s Net Direct Tax Collections Rise 12.96% to ₹12.12 Lakh Crore in FY 2026-27 till 17 September

India’s net direct tax collections for Financial Year 2026-27 stood at ₹12,12,410.71 crore (₹12.12 lakh crore) as on 17 September 2026, registering a year-on-year growth of 12.96% over ₹10,73,272.17 crore collected during the corresponding period of FY 2025-26.

The gross direct tax collections, before adjustment of refunds, increased by 15.19% to ₹14,32,437.43 crore (₹14.32 lakh crore) as against ₹12,43,582.45 crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

Refunds rise 29.19% to ₹2.20 lakh crore

Refunds aggregating to ₹2,20,026.72 crore (₹2.20 lakh crore) were issued during FY 2026-27 up to 17 September 2026, representing an increase of 29.19% over refunds of ₹1,70,310.28 crore issued during the corresponding period of FY 2025-26.

Accordingly, after adjustment of refunds, the Government’s net direct tax collections stood at ₹12.12 lakh crore, reflecting the 12.96% growth over the previous year.

Net Corporate Tax Collections rise to ₹5.56 lakh crore

The net Corporate Tax (CT) collections increased to ₹5,55,967.80 crore (₹5.56 lakh crore) as on 17 September 2026, compared with ₹4,65,311.20 crore during the corresponding period last year. This translates into growth of approximately 19.5%.

On a gross basis, Corporate Tax collections stood at ₹6,94,537.81 crore (₹6.95 lakh crore) as against ₹5,95,739.30 crore in the corresponding period of FY 2025-26.

Net Non-Corporate Tax Collections cross ₹6.16 lakh crore

Non-Corporate Tax (NCT) collections, after refunds, increased to ₹6,16,228.75 crore (₹6.16 lakh crore) from ₹5,81,374.75 crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

Gross Non-Corporate Tax collections stood at ₹6,97,668.14 crore (₹6.98 lakh crore) as against ₹6,21,240.29 crore recorded during the corresponding period last year.

Non-Corporate Tax includes taxes paid by individuals, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), firms, Associations of Persons (AoPs), Bodies of Individuals (BoIs), Local Authorities and Artificial Juridical Persons.

Securities Transaction Tax collections surge over 52%

Collections from Securities Transaction Tax (STT) recorded a strong increase during the period. Net STT collections stood at ₹40,214.36 crore as against ₹26,305.72 crore in the corresponding period of FY 2025-26, reflecting growth of approximately 52.9%.

Collections under other taxes stood at ₹17.12 crore on a gross basis, while the net figure was marginally negative at ₹(-)0.20 crore, compared with net collections of ₹280.51 crore during the corresponding period last year.

Advance Tax Collections grow 16.18% to ₹5.22 lakh crore

The data also reflects healthy momentum in Advance Tax collections. Total Advance Tax collections for FY 2026-27, as on 17 September 2026, increased to ₹5,21,940.72 crore (₹5.22 lakh crore) from ₹4,49,256.41 crore in the corresponding period of FY 2025-26, registering growth of 16.18%.

Corporate Advance Tax collections rose by 18.09% to ₹4,16,083.59 crore, compared with ₹3,52,351.59 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Non-Corporate Advance Tax collections increased by 9.24% to ₹1,05,856.69 crore, as against ₹96,904.05 crore collected during the corresponding period of FY 2025-26.
