Commercial tax collection went up to Rs 1,13,235 crore in the present financial year till January 31, thus recording an increase of Rs 12,001 crore from the previous year’s revenue till January 31, 2024, State Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration P Moorthy announced on Tuesday.
At a review meeting with top officers of the commercial tax department in Chennai, the Minister said that the revenue earned the previous year till January 31 was 1,01,234 crore and congratulated the department officials for their hard work.
On GST, he said that a new scheme had been introduced by the GST Council to waive the interest and penalty for pending payments for the years 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20 if they were cleared before March 31, 2025.
Moorthy urged the traders to make use of the facility and clear all GST dues.
