Pune Income Tax Department Collects Rs 1.33 Lakh Crore, Sets Rs 1.60 Lakh Crore Target for FY27

The Pune Income Tax Department has recorded a strong performance in tax collection and recovered Rs 1,33,635 crore during financial year 2025-26, achieving nearly 98.5% of its target.

For financial year 2026-27, the department has been assigned a higher target of Rs 1.60 lakh crore.

The information was shared by Vivek Wadekar, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Pune, during an interaction on the department’s outreach initiative.

The department said the new Income Tax Act, 2025 has come into effect from 1st April, 2026.

To create awareness about the new law and explain its provisions, the Pune Income Tax Department has launched PRARAMBH 2026.

This initiative is part of a broader taxpayer outreach programme which is linked to the government’s Viksit Bharat vision.

Officials said the programme aims to simplify communication around tax laws and help citizens understand procedural changes under the new framework.

The Pune division has jurisdiction over 23 districts.

Senior officials said awareness programmes will be organised across the region for taxpayers, chartered accountants, industry representatives, businesses and other stakeholders.

The initiative will focus on explaining important provisions of the new law, compliance requirements and taxpayer services.

According to the department, the Pune division has more than 10 crore PAN holders.

More than one crore income tax returns have been filed in the region.

Officials also mentioned that over two lakh registered trusts and societies fall under the department’s jurisdiction.

Senior officers, including Principal Chief Commissioner Abhinay Kumar, Additional Commissioner Shashank Devadkar and other senior officials, were present during this programme.
