Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on August 07, 2026 held detailed discussions with economist Arvind Subramanian at the MCRHRD Bodhi Pavilion on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to improve state revenues, particularly GST collections, and devise a robust action plan amid Telangana’s rapidly expanding economy. The two discussed measures to strengthen the state’s financial position in a planned manner, with a special focus on reforms in the GST and excise departments.
The CM said an AI-driven system with specialised inputs would be introduced for GST officials to simplify processes as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s finances. He emphasised that the system should not create obstacles or inconvenience for businesses. Subramanian explained that technology could be leveraged to increase revenue while also improving the ease of doing business.
He specifically suggested AI-enabled coordination among the municipal, RERA, Panchayat Raj, electricity, finance and commercial taxes departments to curb leakages related to building and construction materials. He said that, at the stage of granting permissions for large buildings and contract works, details of the required construction materials should be recorded along with corresponding tax estimates.
Revanth Reddy said integrating this data with information from MeeSeva, Aarogyasri and the CM’s Relief Fund would also aid governance. Chief secretary Sanjay Jaju, Commercial Taxes and Excise secretary Raghunandan Rao, Excise commissioner Hari Kiran and others were present.
