The need for better coordination and exchange of available data and resources between state and central tax administrations was emphasised at a joint meeting here on Friday to explore ways to augment tax revenue collection in Bihar.
The meeting also discussed improving tax compliance among taxpayers under state and central tax administrations and strengthening enforcement measures.
State commercial taxes commissioner-cum-secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh chaired the meeting. Commissioner, Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Vijay Kumar Singh, and representatives of Consumer Experience Patna-1, the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), the income tax department and the East Central Railway’s Danapur division also attended the meeting.
Discussions covered scope for revenue augmentation, tax compliance, challenges related to auto-registration, timely filing of GST returns and clearance of pending taxes.
Officials also discussed differences in sector-wise tax revenues and the need for sector-specific strategies. The revenue gap in the real estate sector was examined in particular.
Issues related to railway taxes, enforcement and matters concerning the I-T department were also discussed.
