Record festive sales show GST benefits reaching people: HM Amit Shah

Amit Shah said the government’s tax reforms have directly benefited consumers, noting that 395 items that once fell under the 28–18 percent GST slabs have now been reduced. He added that the Finance Ministry has formed a committee to ensure these benefits reach the people, which, he said, contributed to record festive season sales across the country.

Home Minister Amit Shah, in an exclusive interview with Network18 Group Editor-in-Chief, highlighted the GST reforms, describing it as one of the biggest economic reforms.

Union Minister Amit Shah said on GST that “Earlier, 395 items were under the 28–18 percent tax slabs, which have now been reduced. To ensure that the full benefit reaches the people, the Finance Ministry has set up a committee. That is why record sales were witnessed during the festive season.”

Speaking on the drug cartel issue, Shah said, “This is a very serious problem that weakens future generations. A five-year plan has been prepared, and record-breaking actions have been taken. Now, a strategy has been drawn up to target the big fish within these cartels.”

On the nationwide Summary Revision of the Electoral Roll (SIR), Shah said, “Our party supports the Election Commission. The SIR has been conducted from 1955 to 2004; this is not the first time. Cleansing the voter list is extremely necessary. The opposition, however, wants a tainted voter list.”

Union Minister Amit Shah said on Naxalism: “By March 31, 2026 this country will be completely free of Naxalism. The doors for surrender are open for the Naxals. Bihar has become completely free of Naxalism, which is why voting will be held until 5 pm. I want to tell the Naxals that the path to the mainstream is open for you — lay down your arms, otherwise by March 2026 the country will be free of Naxalism. We will never negotiate with someone who holds a weapon. Can you hold a gun to someone’s temple and still have a conversation? The Congress and the Left provide ideological nourishment to the Naxals.”
