In a review meeting conducted via video conferencing with zonal additional commissioners of the state tax department, Principal secretary M Devaraj stressed resolving pending cases under investigation by special research branch of the department. Expressing dissatisfaction with delays, Devaraj instructed notices for all pending cases be issued within two days.
Saying prolonged delays tarnished the department’s reputation, Devaraj directed officials to prioritise traders’ as well as department’s interests by ensuring timely and lawful resolution of cases.
Devaraj said notices remain to be issued for 12 cases since 2022-23 and 130 cases from 2023-24 at zonal level and instructed that decisions on reports received in future be made within a week and notifications be issued accordingly by additional commissioners, Grade 01 (zonal officers).
It was observed that three cases since 2019-20 and 148 cases since 2021-22 were pending. Devaraj directed these cases be disposed within 10 days and reiterated that the resolution process should not result in unnecessary harassment of traders. He highlighted the chief minister’s directive that traders and citizens of the state must not face undue trouble under any circumstances.
