More than 9 crore people have filed their income tax returns till Feb. 28 for the financial year 2025, according to the latest data from the Income Tax Department. Of this, over four lakh taxpayers reported an income of more than Rs 1 crore.
The data showed that roughly 3.89 lakh taxpayers reported an income between Rs 1 crore and Rs 5 crore, while around 36,274 individuals reported earnings between Rs 5 crore and Rs 10 crore.
Additionally, 43,004 people reported an income above Rs 10 crore, taking the total number of taxpayers with an income of over Rs 1 crore to 4,68,658. These figures could increase as the last date to file IT returns is March 31.
How Many Taxpayers Have Filed ITR Till Now?
As of Feb. 28, over 9.11 crore taxpayers have filed their IT returns. The total number of registered taxpayers in India is 13.96 crore. This would mean that roughly 65% of the registered taxpayers have filed their IT returns till now.
The number of e-verified tax returns is 8.56 crore. Refunds worth Rs 3.92 lakh crore have been issued by the IT department till now.
Which State Has Highest IT Returns?Â
Maharashtra has seen the highest number of IT returns at 1.38 crore, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 90.68 lakh. The number of IT returns filed from Gujarat stood at 87.90 lakh. Delhi saw 44.45 lakh IT returns during the same period. The corresponding figures for Andhra Pradesh and Punjab were 30.76 lakh and 43.79 lakh, respectively.
Growth In IT Return Filings
ITR-1 filings saw a 0.11% growth, while ITR-2 saw a growth of 33.89%. For ITR-3 the figure stood at 15.50%. The corresponding figures for ITR-5 and ITR-6 were 6.46% and 5.59%, respectively.
