Mizoram’s June GST collection drops by 29%

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) collected by Mizoram during June this year has gone down considerably compared to the GST collected by the state during June last year, according to data released by the ministry of finance (MoF).

According to the figures released by the MoF, Mizoram collected Rs 30 crore under GST in June this year, as against Rs 42 crore during June, 2024, a decrease of 29%.

The state GST (SGST) collected in Mizoram during the first three months of 2025-2026 fiscal year was also much lower compared to the same period of the last financial year.

Compared to the last fiscal (2024-2025), the SGST collection in Mizoram declined by 28% in April, 26% in May and 29% in June in the current financial year, according to the figures released by the MoF.

An economist said, “While some northeastern states collected less amount of SGST in a particular month compared to the last fiscal, in the case of Mizoram, the collection during the current financial year is perpetually lesser every month compared to last year.”

An official of the state taxation directorate under the finance department said developmental works undertaken by contractors under the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) are minimal, resulting in less collection of GST.

“The NHIDCL, which is taking up majority of highway and road construction, remains the biggest payer of SGST in the state and sluggish works being undertaken under the central PSU is the main reason for collection of less amount of SGST in Mizoram,” he said.

The absence of central projects beyond the state’s annual budgets, which used to come earlier, can also be attributed to the torpid collection of the SGST, an official said.
