A permanent account number or PAN card is a crucial document for every person who earns income or conducts any kind of financial transaction in India. It is required for opening a bank account, filing an income tax return, or buying real estate.
However, most people don’t know that if their PAN card isn’t linked to Aadhaar or if the information doesn’t match, it can become inactive/inoperative.
Verifying that your PAN is activated for financial activities is crucial as the ITR filing process gets underway to prevent major fines and repercussions on the Income Tax e-filing system.
People can verify their PAN status online; however, to check the status of your PAN card, its prerequisites for individuals are to have a valid PAN number and the registered mobile number linked to the PAN for OTP verification.
A step-by-step guide on checking the status of PAN card online
Step 1: Start by visiting the official Income Tax e-filing website at http://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
Step 2: Click on the “Verify PAN status” option on the website’s home page, under “Quick Links”.
Step 3: The website will take you to a new page where you will be asked to enter your PAN number, name, date of birth and mobile number.
Ensure to enter the same registered mobile number which you added on your form while applying for your PAN card.
Step 4: After filling in the details, click on the “Continue” button, and then you will receive an OTP password on your registered mobile.
Step 5: Enter the OTP you received on your registered mobile on the next page and click on the “Validate” button.
After entering the required details, you will be taken to a page where you will see the status and validity of your PAN Card and the number of the active PAN Card and its jurisdiction.
