Hero MotoCorp on Tuesday was slapped by a Goods and Services Tax (GST) demand, including a penalty of over ₹1.22 crore raised by the Uttar Pradesh State Tax Department for the financial year 2021-22.
In a regulatory disclosure, the company said it received an order dated December 9, 2025, from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, State Tax, Lucknow, under Section 73 of the Central GST Act and the UP GST Act. The order raises a tax demand of ₹1,10,99,508 and imposes a penalty of ₹11,09,949, along with applicable interest.
The alleged violations include excess input tax credit (ITC) claims due to mismatches between GSTR-2A/2B and GSTR-3B, and incorrect claims of blocked ITC under Section 17(5).
Hero MotoCorp, however, maintained that it correctly availed input tax credit and termed the tax demand “not maintainable in law”. The company said it will take appropriate steps, including filing an appeal against the order.
