HDFC Life hit with ₹1.66 cr GST demand over mismatched tax returns

HDFC Life Insurance Company Limited has received a GST Order from the office of Assistant State Tax Officer, Panji, North Goa on January 24, 2025, According to the Company’s exchange filing.

The demand order confirms a tax demand of ₹ 93.43 Lakh; Interest of ₹ 63.06 Lakh and penalty of ₹ 9.34 Lakh.

The matter relates to the short payment of GST on outward supply due to a mismatch between GSTR3B and GSTR9; Excess availment of input tax credit due to mismatch between GSTR3B and GSTR2A, and Excess availment of ISD (input Service distributer) credit due to mismatch between GSTR3B and GSTR2A.

The Company has received a GST Order from the office of Assistant State Tax Officer, Panji, North Goa on January 24, 2025.

The private life insurance companies are set to challenge the order before an appropriate authority. “The said Order is appealable before the Appellate Authority. The Company will file its appeal within the specified period,” said HDFC Life in a regulatory filing.
