GSTAT Hyderabad streamlines appellate functioning: Revised Court Benches to operate from October 5, 2026; Registry intimation required for Miscellaneous, Transfer, Withdrawal and other applications

The Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT), Hyderabad Bench has issued two important Public Notices concerning the functioning of the Tribunal—one revising the constitution and hearing schedule of the Courts with effect from October 5, 2026, and another prescribing that the Registry be specifically informed whenever any application, including Miscellaneous, Transfer or Withdrawal Application, is filed in addition to a regular appeal. The measures are intended to facilitate systematic hearing, scrutiny and listing of matters before the Hyderabad Bench.

Revised constitution of GSTAT Hyderabad Benches from October 5, 2026

Vide Public Notice F. No. GSTAT-HYD-2026-27/2/Notifications dated October 1, 2026, the Hyderabad Bench has notified the revised constitution of its Courts and hearing schedule pursuant to Office Order No. 5/GSTAT/PB/2026 dated September 30, 2026, issued by the Hon’ble President, GSTAT. The revised arrangement will come into force with effect from October 5, 2026, on all working days, subject to subsequent orders or directions.

Under the revised constitution, Court-I will sit from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM and will comprise Hon’ble Shri Sushil Kumar Sharma, Judicial Member, GSTAT Hyderabad, and Hon’ble Shri U. Sreenivasulu, Technical Member, GSTAT Hyderabad. Court-II will sit from 2:30 PM onwards and will comprise Hon’ble Shri A. P. Ravi, Judicial Member, GSTAT Hyderabad, and Hon’ble Shri D. K. Srinivas, Technical Member, GSTAT Hyderabad.

The Tribunal has clarified that hearings will continue to be conducted from its temporary premises at 3rd Floor, GST Bhavan, L.B. Stadium Road, Basheerbagh, Hyderabad – 500004, Telangana. Taxpayers, departmental authorities, authorised representatives, advocates and other stakeholders have been advised to regularly refer to the GSTAT e-filing portal for the Cause List and updates concerning listing of their respective matters. The Public Notice has been issued with the approval of the Hon’ble Vice President, GSTAT Hyderabad.

Separate intimation to Registry required for applications filed in pending appeals

In a separate Public Notice bearing F. No. GSTAT/HYD/2/2026-27/Notifications dated September 30, 2026, the Hyderabad Bench has informed taxpayers, departmental authorities, authorised representatives, advocates and other stakeholders that where any application is filed before the Tribunal, apart from the regular appeal, the filing should also be brought to the notice of the Registry.

The requirement covers applications including Miscellaneous Applications, Transfer Applications and Withdrawal Applications, among others. The purpose of such intimation is to enable the Registry to scrutinise the application and have it listed before the Bench along with the original appeal, thereby ensuring that connected proceedings are appropriately coordinated before the Tribunal.

The Public Notice therefore places an important procedural responsibility on litigants and their representatives to ensure that filing an application electronically or otherwise is accompanied by appropriate intimation to the Registry, so that the application does not remain disconnected from the corresponding main appeal at the stage of scrutiny and listing. The Notice has also been issued with the approval of the Hon’ble Vice President, GSTAT Hyderabad.

Move towards smoother case management and coordinated hearings

Taken together, the two Public Notices seek to strengthen the administrative and procedural functioning of the GSTAT Hyderabad Bench. While the revised constitution provides a clearly defined Court-wise composition and hearing timetable from October 5, 2026, the Registry-intimation requirement is aimed at ensuring that ancillary applications are promptly scrutinised and placed before the Bench together with the relevant original appeals.
