Arunachal Pradesh deputy chief minister Chowna Mein on Wednesday said the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has transformed India’s indirect tax regime and empowered states to accelerate development.

Addressing traders and entrepreneurs during a GST Bachat Utsav organised by the Arunachal Chamber of Commerce & Industries at Naharlagun near here, Mein highlighted their crucial role in effectively implementing GST reforms, an official statement from deputy CM’s office said.

He recalled PM Modi’s appreciation of the support and participation of local businessman in the successful implementation of GST. The multiple benefits of the GST reform should reach the common man, he said. Highlighting the progress achieved in Arunachal Pradesh, the deputy CM informed that the state’s GST collections have registered a seven-fold increase, rising from just Rs 227 crore in 2017-18 to nearly Rs 1,900 crore in 2023-24.

These enhanced resources, he noted, have significantly contributed towards the construction of roads, improvement of healthcare, expansion of educational facilities, and the implementation of welfare programmes.
