In an effort to enhance transparency in the GST registration process, a GST Suvidha Kendra has been launched in Gorakhpur. The facility was inaugurated at Revenue Bhawan, Civil Lines on Thursday by Vineet Chaudhary, Commissioner of the Central Goods and Services Tax (GST), Varanasi Zone.
Under the new system, traders can book a slot for GST registration at the center, similar to the passport application process. After applying online, applicants will need to visit the center for document verification and biometric authentication, which includes Aadhaar-based biometric verification and iris scanning. All registration procedures must be completed within 15 days of booking a slot.
Speaking to the media, Commissioner Vineet Chaudhary emphasised that the new system aims to prevent tax evasion and enhance business credibility. The biometric authentication process will ensure that only genuine businesses get registered, thereby curbing the creation of fake firms and bogus invoices.
The GST Suvidha Kendra will offer comprehensive support services, including photo capturing, document verification, and biometric authentication. The center will operate Monday to Friday, from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
The launch event was attended by Additional Commissioner Priyaranjan Srivastava, Additional Commissioner Kavita Singh, Assistant Commissioner Harish Chandra, Superintendent Lal Babu Prasad, along with chartered accountants, advocates, and other officials.
