GST arrears recovery drive nets 3.5 crore

State GST department initiated arrears recovery proceedings against bar hotels that failed to clear their dues under the amnesty scheme announced in 2025-26 state budget. The department recovered Rs 3.5 crore through a statewide recovery drive conducted on June 20, 21 and 23, covering over 65 bar hotels.

As part of this effort, 11 hotels settled their dues by availing the benefits of the amnesty scheme. Over 25 hotel owners expressed interest in joining the scheme, said officials.

Under the scheme, bar hotels are permitted to settle all turnover tax arrears, including cess and 50% of accrued interest, for the period from 2005-06 to 2020-21. The payments must be made through the state e-treasury portal www.etreasury.kerala.gov.in. After remitting the amount, the e-challan and the offline application for amnesty must be submitted to the respective assessing authority by June 30 to qualify for a waiver of the remaining interest and penalties.

State GST commissioner urged all eligible taxpayers to make use of the amnesty window. The commissioner also warned that strict recovery proceedings would continue against defaulters who fail to take advantage of the scheme.
