Govt plans to table Insurance, IBC Amendment Bills in Winter Session; Supplementary Demands likely early in session

The Centre is gearing up for a packed Winter Session of Parliament from December 1 to 19, with two key pieces of economic legislation—the Insurance Amendment Bill and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) Amendment Bill—likely to be tabled, according to senior government officials.

Sources said both bills are in the final stages of inter-ministerial consultations and could be introduced in the first half of the session, signalling the government’s intent to push ahead with long-pending financial-sector reforms. The proposed amendments are expected to widen the regulatory scope of the insurance sector and fine-tune resolution processes under the IBC to improve recovery outcomes.

The government is also preparing to present the Supplementary Demands for Grants, likely in the early part of the Winter Session. This will allow the Centre to seek parliamentary approval for additional spending, including allocations for priority schemes and adjustments arising from the fiscal position in the second half of the year.
