The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has reported that taxpayers experienced technical difficulties while filing returns on the GST portal on April 20, 2026. The disruption affected the timely submission of the monthly GSTR-3B return, which is due on the 20th of every month.
Based on feedback received from GSTN and representations from taxpayers across the country, the Government is actively considering a proposal to extend the filing deadline for the monthly GSTR-3B return by one day, from April 20 to April 21, 2026. This step is being taken to mitigate inconvenience caused to taxpayers due to circumstances beyond their control.
“GSTN regrets technical difficulties experienced in return filing yesterday. Based on feedback from GSTN, Govt is considering extension of filing date of monthly GSTR 3B (20th April) by one day (21st April).”
The GSTN has expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and has assured that necessary technical measures are being undertaken to strengthen system resilience and ensure smoother functioning of the portal in the future.
The Government remains committed to facilitating ease of compliance for taxpayers and ensuring that such technical issues are addressed promptly and effectively. An official notification regarding the extension, if approved, is expected to be issued shortly.
