
The Commissionerate police and the State Tax department have arrested four accused and remanded them to judicial custody after busting a gang involved in evading taxes to the value of Rs 37.87 crore by creating fake companies in Kanpur. The arrests were made on Sunday.
Based on a complaint filed by Assistant Commissioner Area D of the State Tax Department Sanjay Kumar Singh, an FIR was registered at Kalyanpur police station on June 14. During raids, the police recovered laptops, mobile phones, and SIM cards from the accused.
The police investigation revealed that a firm named Kumar Enterprises fraudulently obtained GST registration at a residential address in Swaroop Nagar, Kanpur, using forged documents despite no business activity there.
The building owner stated that he neither rented out space to any company nor signed any rent agreement. Data analysis from the GST portal confirmed fake sales of Rs 155.89 crore in the financial year 2024-25 and Rs 54.83 crore in 2025-26, leading to the evasion of tax amounting to Rs 37.87 crore.
Following Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal’s directive, the SIT arrested Bablu Kumar, Deepanshu Sharma, Prince Pandey, and Bindeshwar Pandey from Gautambuddh Nagar on Dec 14. Laptops, several mobile phones, and SIM cards were recovered from the possession of the accused.
Kalyanpur police station in-charge Rajendrakant Shukla said that all the accused were presented in the court and sent to jail.
