Eicher Motors gets customs duty demand order, penalty of ₹1.64 crore

Eicher Motors on Thursday said it has received a customs duty demand order along with penalty amounting to ₹1.64 crore from the West Bengal tax authorities.

The demand relates to the preferential tariff exemption claimed by the company on the import of goods for one shipment during 2020.

Eicher Motors said it is “evaluating all options, including filing an appeal against the order” received on June 3, 2026 from the Principal Commissioner of Customs (Preventive), Kolkata, West Bengal.

In a regulatory filing, the company said, “A demand order is received over an email on 3.06.2026 for an aggregate amount of ₹1.64 crore (which includes demand of duty amounting to ₹0.82 crore under Section 28(4) of the Customs Act, 1962 and Penalty of ₹0.82 Crore under Section 114A of the Customs Act, 1962).”
