The Jaipur unit of the Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence (DGGI) has uncovered GST evasion of approximately Rs 8.5 crore by Shriram Steel, an iron scrap dealer in Shivnagar, near Vishwakarma Industrial Area. During a two-day raid, directors Vimlesh Agarwal and Devidayal Gupta admitted partial lapses and paid Rs 4.3 crore in GST immediately, depositing another Rs 2.15 crore on the spot and providing an advance cheque of Rs 2.15 crore.
DGGI officials allege that Shriram Steel used fraudulent invoices to supply iron scrap to traders in Mandi Govindgarh, Punjab, without paying GST. The case is linked to the earlier Mahavir Trading Company scandal, which involved the sale of 1.3 million tons of TMT rebar, ingots, and scrap, resulting in a GST loss of over Rs 706 crore.
