The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has issued Notification No. 28/2026-27 dated August 05, 2026 to streamline the Halal certification process applicable to exports of specified meat and meat products to Egypt.
The Notification has been issued in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 3 read with Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, along with Paragraphs 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, as amended from time to time.
Through the latest Notification, the Central Government has amended Notification No. 59/2025-26 dated 9 February 2026, which prescribed requirements relating to the export of specified meat and meat products to Egypt.
The amendment provides that, in the case of Egypt, the mandatory India Conformity Assessment Scheme for Halal certification, known as i-CAS-Halal, will take effect after a period of nine months from the date of Notification No. 59/2025-26.
The earlier transition period of six months has accordingly been extended by a further period of three months, thereby increasing the total implementation period from six months to nine months from 9 February 2026.
The extension has been granted to facilitate system readiness and enable the completion of onboarding and accreditation of certification bodies under the India Conformity Assessment Scheme (i-CAS)-Halal.
The additional transition period is expected to support a smooth and orderly implementation of the mandatory certification framework while providing adequate time to the concerned Egyptian Halal certification bodies to complete the required accreditation and onboarding procedures.
Exporters of specified meat and meat products to Egypt may take note of the revised implementation timeline and ensure compliance with the i-CAS-Halal certification requirements upon completion of the extended transition period.
The Notification clarifies that all other provisions of Notification No. 59/2025-26 dated 9 February 2026 will remain unchanged.
