Delhi student falls victim to GST fraud involving Rs 26 crore

A student from Tri Nagar in northwest Delhi has fallen victim to a major GST scam, with unidentified fraudsters allegedly using his PAN and Aadhaar to execute business transactions worth nearly Rs 26 crore.

The complainant approached the police after noticing irregularities while filing his income tax return for the assessment year 2025. He was shocked to find that the Income Tax Department’s portal showed a GST turnover of approximately Rs 26 crore linked to his PAN.

Alarmed, he checked the GSTN portal and discovered that a firm had been fraudulently registered in his name on June 10, 2024. The registration was later cancelled on Dec 31, 2024, without his knowledge. Documents accessed from official portals suggested that the firm was active during this period and may have been used to carry out transactions amounting to several crores.

The complainant clarified that he had never operated, managed, or authorised any business under the firm’s name or any other trade name and had never applied for GST registration.

Following the complaint, police have registered a case under relevant sections pertaining to cheating.
