The central government on Saturday announced that Ajay Seth, the Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), has been given the additional charge of Secretary for the Department of Revenue.
An official notice issued by the government said, “The Competent Authority has approved the assignment of additional charge of the post of Secretary, Department of Revenue to Shri Ajay Seth, IAS, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs upon relinquishment of the charge of the post by Shri Tuhin Kanta Pandey, IAS, till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”
The appointment comes just days after Tuhin Kanta Pandey, the incumbent revenue secretary, was appointed as the new chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for a term of three years.
Ajay Seth is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1987 Karnataka cadre. He will continue his duties in the Department of Economic Affairs while managing the additional responsibility of the Revenue Department. He has worked in matters related to budget, tax policy, foreign investments, bilateral and multilateral financial cooperation, development financing, and public-private-partnerships.
Earlier on Thursday, the government had announced the appointment of Finance Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey as chairman of the SEBI. He will be replacing Madhabi Puri Buch whose tenure as SEBI Chief ends on February 28.
