The government on Thursday extended the term of Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran for two more years. He was appointed as CEA on January 28, 2022 and his term came to end last month.
“The tenure of Dr V Anantha Nageswaran as Chief Economic Advisor on contract basis is extended up to March 31, 2027, or until further order, whatever is earlier,” an office order issued by Finance Ministry said.
Before joining the Finance Ministry, Nageswaran was an author, teacher and consultant and has taught at several business schools and institutes of management in India and in Singapore, the Union Finance Ministry said in a statement. An IIM-Ahmedabad graduate, Nageswaran used to teach international economics, exchange rates, and financial markets at leading B-Schools in Singapore and India. He also holds a doctoral degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
Prior to this, Nageswaran was also a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India from 2019 to 2021. He has also worked as a dean of the IFMR Graduate School of Business and a visiting professor of Economics at Krea University.
CEA in the Finance Ministry is a key contributor to the government’s overall strategy in managing the economy and offers a critique of the hits and misses through the Economic Survey.
