CBIC Issues Alert on Fake GST Violation Notices

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued an important alert on July 21, 2025, warning taxpayers about a growing scam involving fake GST violation notices. According to the CBIC, fraudsters are circulating official-looking documents to deceive individuals into taking action on bogus GST claims.

The alert outlines key tips for identifying fake notices, such as:

  • Fake summons that closely resemble genuine government documents.
  • Use of the CGST logo and a fraudulent Document Identification Number (DIN).
  • Official-looking language and structure designed to mislead recipients.

CBIC strongly advises all taxpayers to verify the DIN before responding to any such communication. The DIN can be verified through the official portal: cbic.gov.in.

Citizens are also urged to report any suspicious documents immediately. For support, the Cyber Helpline (1030) and the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) are available.

CBIC emphasizes vigilance to prevent financial fraud and protect taxpayers from cybercrime threats.
