The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), vide Order F. No. 225/53/2024-ITA-II dated March 18, 2026, has issued directions under section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961, in view of the closing of the Financial Year 2025–26.
As per the order, the Financial Year 2025–26 closes on March 31, 2026 (Tuesday), which has been declared a Closed Holiday on account of Mahavir Jayanti. In order to facilitate the timely completion of pending departmental work, it has been directed that all Income Tax Offices across the country shall remain open on March 31, 2026.
This measure has been undertaken to ensure administrative convenience and smooth functioning of departmental operations during the financial year-end. The order has been issued by CBDT in exercise of the powers conferred under section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961.
