
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), under the Ministry of Finance, has issued an office order assigning additional charge to three officers in the grade of Principal Commissioner of Income-tax (PCIT) in Mumbai. The arrangement has been made in continuation of earlier administrative orders to ensure uninterrupted functioning and expeditious disposal of appellate matters.
The order has been issued vide F. No. 187/2/2026-ITA-I dated June 10, 2026, pursuant to CBDT Office Order No. 114 of 2026 dated 19.05.2026 and CBDT Office Order No. 121 of 2026 dated 29.05.2026.
According to the order, three PCIT-level officers have been entrusted with additional charge in the grade of Commissioner of Income-tax/Director of Income-tax with immediate effect and until further orders. The move is aimed at strengthening the appellate mechanism and maintaining administrative efficiency within the Income-tax Department.

The CBDT has stated that, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 241(1) read with Section 241(2) of the Income-tax Act, 2025, the officers referred to above shall exercise the powers and perform the functions of the Income-tax Authority corresponding to their additional assignments from the dates specified in the respective CBDT orders.
The Board clarified that these officers shall discharge responsibilities attached to the additional appellate jurisdictions alongside their substantive postings, thereby ensuring continuity in adjudication and disposal of appeals under the faceless appellate framework.
The administrative arrangement takes effect from the dates of CBDT Office Order No. 114 of 2026 dated 19 May 2026 and Office Order No. 121 of 2026 dated 29 May 2026, and shall remain operative until further orders.
Background: CBDT periodically undertakes administrative rationalisation and redistribution of responsibilities to ensure effective tax administration and timely disposal of taxpayer appeals. The present order forms part of the Board’s ongoing efforts to enhance institutional efficiency and strengthen appellate functions within the Income-tax Department.
