Businessman attempts suicide at GST intelligence office in Coimbatore

A 45-year-old businessman allegedly attempted suicide at the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) zonal office in Ukkadam here on Tuesday. Goods and Services Tax (GST) officials summoned Hariharan and three others for questioning about tax evasion. All of them appeared before the officials on Tuesday. However, during questioning, Hariharan informed the officials that he was feeling unwell and needed rest.

The officers agreed, and he went inside a room. Seeing that he did not return for a long time, officers went inside to check and found him hanging from a ceiling fan.

They rescued him and sent him to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment. He was treated as an outpatient and sent home. The Ukkadam police registered a case and began investigations.
