Bharti Airtel faces ₹7.68 cr penalty under GST Act

On January 21, Bharti Airtel Limited received an order under the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 from the Office of the Commissioner of Central Goods and Services Tax, Bengaluru South Commissionerate, Bengaluru, according to the exchange filing.

The GST authority passed the order u/s 74 of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 levying a penalty of ₹ 7,68,35,122/-.

The matter relates to the alleged irregular input tax credit claimed during the financial year 2017-18 to 2021-22.

The Company is likely to challenge the order before the appellate authority. “The Company does not agree with the Order and will take appropriate action(s) for the same,” Bharti Airtel said in an exchange filing.
