Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed a dramatic rise in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections, with revenue climbing over 700 per cent in six years to nearly Rs 1,900 crore in 2023-24 from just Rs 227 crore in 2017-18, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said on Friday.
Speaking at a BJP programme on GST reforms in Namsai district, Mein attributed the growth to improved digital access, easier registration processes and sustained efforts to bring small businesses into the formal economy, PTI reported.
According to an official statement, the number of registered taxpayers more than doubled during this period, rising from 7,365 in 2017 to 18,477 by mid-2025.
“These additional resources have been instrumental in building roads, expanding healthcare, improving education and funding welfare programmes,” he said.
The Deputy CM said the upcoming GST reforms, set to be implemented on September 22, would further accelerate development in the state. Medicines, farm machinery, handicrafts and tourism services are expected to become cheaper, directly benefiting people across sectors.
