Arunachal Pradesh tops in GST collections in India

Arunachal Pradesh in May 2025 achieved a remarkable 61.9% year-on-year growth in GST collections, the highest percentage increase among all Indian states. This surge reflects a strong economic momentum and the growing awareness and compliance among taxpayers in the region, state CGST said in a press statement.

As part of a series of initiatives leading up to GST Day (July 1), CGST Itanagar Commissionerate, in collaboration with state GST Department and local administration, has launched intensive outreach programmes across the state. After a successful session in Pasighat, the latest programme was held in Lower Dibang Valley DC office on June 5 last.

These initiatives aim to further sustain revenue growth by fostering voluntary tax compliance, improving return filing practices and clarifying key GST provisions, especially in sectors like construction and works contracts, it said.

Participants were guided on essential topics, like GST registration, return filing, record maintenance, ITC claims, and reverse charge mechanism. common compliance issues while exemptions were addressed in a simplified practical manner, CGST assistant commissioner said.

These outreach programmes are part of a larger strategy to build long-term tax compliance and trust. Feedback collected during the sessions would  help tailor future initiatives. The department has reaffirmed its commitment to regularly conducting such programmes across the state and next session is scheduled at Bomdila to ensure that this positive growth trajectory continues, the press statement added.
