Andhra Pradesh is emerging as a frontrunner in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics for tax administration, setting an example for other states, according to the GST Council.
A delegation from the GST Council Secretariat visited the State Commercial Taxes Department in Amaravati on Monday to study the State government’s use of AI in tax administration.
The team, comprising Additional Secretary Pankaj Kumar Singh and Joint Secretary D.P. Mishra, examined various AI-enabled systems and dashboards developed by the department.
Officials demonstrated dashboards covering registrations, returns, revenue, professional tax, tax arrears, audits, inspections and scrutiny.
The revenue and e-way bill dashboards particularly impressed the delegation. Officials explained that e-way bill data is used to estimate SGST cash payments and IGST settlements, providing crucial information for monitoring revenue.
The department also demonstrated its use of GST data for real-time estimation of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), as well as an AI agent for generating reports and dashboards. An AI-powered knowledge hub has also been established.
AI is being integrated across the tax administration process, including audit selection, detection of irregularities, issuance of notices, analysis of taxpayer responses, and final decision-making. AI engines from Microsoft and Google are also being used.
GST Council Additional Secretary Pankaj Kumar Singh appreciated Andhra Pradesh’s initiative, describing its AI-driven tax administration model as exemplary for other states, according to a release.
