ACC Approves Re-appointment of Shri Ravi Agrawal as CBDT Chairman for Six Months from July 1, 2026

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the re-appointment of Shri Ravi Agrawal as Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

The approval has been issued vide Order No. 31/1/2026-EO(SM-II) dated June 30, 2026, by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Department of Personnel & Training.

Shri Ravi Agrawal has been re-appointed on a contract basis for a period of six months, with effect from July 1, 2026, till December 31, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The re-appointment will be on the usual terms and conditions applicable to re-employed Central Government officers. The order further states that the approval has been granted in relaxation of the Recruitment Rules.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes is the apex body responsible for administration of direct tax laws in India and functions under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.
