ACC Approves Appointment of Shri Sanjay Mangal and Shri Abhai Kumar Srivastav as Members of CBIC to Strengthen Indirect Tax Administration and Enforcement Framework

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on February 12, 2026 has approved the appointment of Shri Sanjay Mangal and Shri Abhai Kumar Srivastav, both officers of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes), as Members in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

According to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, the following appointments have been approved:

  • Shri Sanjay Mangal, IRS (C&IT: 1992), presently serving as Chief Commissioner, Meerut GST & CX Zone.
  • Shri Abhai Kumar Srivastav, IRS (C&IT: 1992), currently Director General, Directorate General of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Delhi.

The appointments have been made in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), which functions under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.

The induction of two senior officers from the 1992 batch of the IRS (C&IT) is expected to further strengthen the leadership of CBIC at a time when indirect tax administration continues to undergo modernization and digital transformation. Their extensive experience in GST administration, revenue intelligence, and enforcement is anticipated to contribute significantly to enhancing compliance management, combating smuggling and tax evasion, and facilitating legitimate trade.

The ACC’s approval was conveyed through an official communication issued by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
