The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Rajkot today on January 30, 2026 booked three persons, including an Assistant Account Officer of the Ministry of Finance, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 45,000 for clearing a pending bill.
The accused have been identified as Ravikumar Sureshkumar Jangid (38), Assistant Account Officer, Class-2, Zonal Account Office, Ministry of Finance, Rajkot; Shalesh K. Chohan, a retired Income Tax Inspector from Bhuj; and Akshaybhai Shaleshbhai Wagdia (33), a contingent peon at the Income Tax Office in Rajkot.
According to the ACB, the complainant had submitted an arrear bill worth around Rs 4 lakh, for which accused Jangid allegedly demanded Rs 80,000 as a bribe, claiming it was 20% of the bill amount. After negotiations, the deal was allegedly settled at Rs 50,000, of which Rs 5,000 was taken in advance. The remaining Rs 45,000 was to be paid on January 29, but the amount was not accepted that day. The money was later to be accepted through the retired inspector and the peon.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which set up a trap. During the operation, accused Wagdia accepted the bribe amount of Rs 45,000 in the presence of panch witnesses and was caught red-handed. The ACB recovered the entire bribe amount from the spot. Further investigation is underway.
