The State GST department has launched a major crackdown on tax evasion in Guwahati’s commercial hub, Fancy Bazar. On Monday, officials began investigation into two business establishments, Shiva Traders and Goyal Traders, for alleged evasion of Goods and Services Tax (GST). Preliminary findings estimate the total evasion to be around Rs 5 crore by the two firms. Following the probe, Varun Goyal was arrested on Tuesday by the investigating team. Sources in the department said further inquiry is underway.
