Guwahati: The Readymade Garment Dealers Association of Assam (RGDAA) has initiated a major compliance drive across the garment trade sector. In a recent meeting held with transporters and railway cargo service providers, the RGDAA emphasized strict adherence to proper invoicing and documentation standards for all consignments.
The association issued a firm directive banning the transportation of goods without valid invoices or through the use of “kacha” (unofficial) bills—an informal practice that often facilitates tax evasion. “Every consignment must be supported by transparent, accurate paperwork,” the RGDAA declared, underscoring its commitment to ensuring financial accountability within the sector.
To enforce these norms, the RGDAA has empowered itself to inspect goods and verify paperwork at major marketplaces and delivery points across Assam. Transporters failing to comply with the regulations could face stringent enforcement action.
Welcoming the move, several transporters and cargo handlers pledged full cooperation with the new guidelines. Many described the initiative as a positive step toward ensuring fair trade and transparency within the industry.
“This is not merely a crackdown—it is a collective step toward creating a level playing field in the garment trade. Honest businesses must not suffer due to loopholes exploited by a few,” said a representative of the RGDAA.
The association’s proactive initiative is being viewed as a significant step toward formalizing trade practices in a sector often burdened by unaccounted transactions. The RGDAA has stated that it will closely monitor the implementation of these measures and take necessary action to uphold discipline in the garment trade network.
