Maharashtra once again topped the country in Goods and Services Tax monthly revenues, collecting a staggering ₹31,530 crore in May 2025.
This was a 17 per cent year-on-year jump from ₹26,854 crore in May 2024.
The southern states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu came next, followed by Gujarat and Delhi.
The top ten GST collected from states and union territories were:
Maharashtra: ₹31,530 crore, up 17 per cent
Karnataka: ₹14,299 crore, up 20 per cent
Tamil Nadu: ₹12,230 crore, up 25 per cent
Gujarat: ₹11,737 crore, up 4 per cent
Delhi: ₹10,366 crore, up 38 per cent
Haryana: ₹10,366 crore, up 9 per cent
The other states and union territories raked in less than ₹10,000 crore in monthly revenue each.
The others in the top ten were Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana, and Odisha.
States, union territories, and central jurisdiction together saw the gross domestic GST revenue grow 13.7 per cent to ₹1,49,785 crore. Accounting for customs, refunds, and import proceeds, the total net GST revenue for India grew 20.4 per cent year-on-year in May 2025 to ₹1,73,841 crore.
The government’s GST body, the Goods and Services Tax Network or GSTN, on June 7, also announced two major changes to the indirect tax return filing from the July 2025 period.
One, GST taxpayers would not be able to edit their GSTR-3B forms from the July 2025 tax period. Two, GST taxpayers would not be able to file monthly and annual GST returns after three years of the original filing due date.
