Senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao on Tuesday slammed the Congress government over Telangana recording 0 per cent GST growth in March 2025, and 5.1 per cent in the 2024-25 financial year.
In a statement, Harish Rao said the state’s performance for the just completed financial year was far below the national average of 10 per cent, and added, “This completely exposes the Deputy Chief Minister and finance minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s false claim in the Assembly that the state was registering 12.3 per cent GST growth. I had earlier cautioned that the real growth may be around 5.5 per cent, now it’s official: It’s even lower.”
Harish Rao said Telangana’s poor performance was a direct result of misguided bulldozer policies like HYDRAA and Musi beautification, killing productive investment, scrapping of Pharma City and erratic Metro Rail plans. These had damaged business sentiment, and the unkept promises including Rs 12,000 crore pending Rythu Bharosa payments had drained rural spending.
“When people have no money in their hands, how will consumption rise? How will GST grow? The finance minister not only misled the Assembly, he’s misled every hardworking citizen of Telangana,” Harish Rao said.
