Tax evasion of Rs 5 crore detected among tobacco dealers in Gujarat

Acting on specific intelligence and sustained surveillance, the State GST Department carried out a major search operation on April 2, targeting the pan masala and tobacco supply chain in North and South Gujarat. An estimated tax evasion of at least Rs 5 crore was detected among dealers.

Preliminary investigations revealed significant irregularities, including unaccounted sales and undisclosed stock, according to department officials.

The operation covered 20 premises linked to eight dealers spread across Ahmedabad, Vapi, Valsad, Palanpur, Deesa, Himmatnagar, and Satalasna. Manufacturing units, warehouses, distributors, and retail outlets were all part of the crackdown, with a particular focus on those engaged in cash-based transactions.
