Income Tax Department Releases Administrative Handbook (AHB) – 2025 Edition

The 2025 Administrative Handbook of India’s Income Tax Department highlights its technological evolution from basic computer use in 1967 to advanced AI and cloud computing, including the 2024 PAN 2.0 project. It also honors department sportspersons’ achievements at the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics, embodying excellence and determination.

The Income Tax Department of India has long been a beacon of progress and innovation, adapting to the needs of a growing and dynamic economy. This year’s Administrative Handbook (AHB) celebrates two significant themes: the “Journey on Computerization of the Income Tax Department over the decades” and a tribute to the sportspersons from the department who brought glory to the nation at the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics.

The transformative evolution of the department’s operations through technology has been a testament to its commitment to excellence and adaptability. From the introduction of computers in 1967 for basic tax calculations to the cutting-edge use of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Cloud Computing, the department has consistently embraced innovation to enhance efficiency and improve taxpayer services. A landmark achievement in this journey was the approval of PAN 2.0 project in 2024, an e-governance project for re-engineering of business processes related to PAN/TAN services, leveraging technology for enhanced digital experience.

In addition to this technological journey, the handbook also honours the exceptional achievements of our sportspersons. Their perseverance, discipline, and success on the global stage exemplify the values that the Income Tax Department upholds. Their accomplishments inspire us to strive for excellence in all endeavours.

This handbook encapsulates both these narratives—one of technological empowerment and the other of human determination and triumph. It serves as a testament to the department’s multifaceted contributions to nation’s progress.
