The Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence (DGGI) has summoned celebrity and former partner of Pasco Motors Shalini Passi, citing short payment of tax by the firm.
Passi, who starred in ‘Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives’ on Netflix recently, has been asked to record a statement and produce documents before goods and services tax authorities in Meerut on March 13. The summons, dated March 11, stated that the inquiry is deemed to be a judicial proceeding and that its non-compliance is a punishable offence. The development follows a summons by the DGGI to Pasco Motors, the largest dealer of Tata Motors, on November 28, 2024.
Passi did not respond to ET’s queries till press time.
However, Pasco Motors’ lawyer JK Mittal said the firm had already challenged the DGGI proceedings before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, where the matter is sub judice. He pointed out that Passi had left the firm in 2021. Mittal said the initial summon was for ‘non-payment’ of tax but later summons allege ‘short-payment’, claiming that DGGI had made false allegations.
He said state GST authorities had already verified records and conducted audit. He pointed that the Punjab and Haryana HC had taken cognisance of the matter and issued a notice on March 10 for seeking forensic examination of the authorisation dated November 22, 2024 used to enter Pasco’s premises, which, he claimed, was fabricated.
