Several important financial and regulatory changes will come into effect in November 2026, affecting pensioners, income tax filers, investors and consumers. From the deadline for submitting annual life certificates and the extended ITR filing date for audited taxpayers to changes in GST provisions, the month will bring several updates that individuals and businesses should keep track of.

Investors will also need to watch fixed deposit interest rate revisions and upcoming premature redemption dates for Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs). Here are key financial updates and deadlines to know about in November 2026.

Pensioners must submit life certificates by November 30

Pensioners must submit their annual life certificates by November 30 to avoid disruption in pension payments. While pensioners aged 80 years and above have been allowed to submit their certificates from October 1, the facility opened for other pensioners on November 1. They can submit the certificate by visiting their bank branch, using the digital Jeevan Pramaan facility through Aadhaar-based authentication, or opting for the postal department’s doorstep service, where available. Those who miss the deadline may face a temporary suspension of their pension payments.

ITR filing deadline for audited taxpayers

The Income Tax Department has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for certain taxpayers requiring an audit from October 31 to November 21 for Assessment Year 2026-27. The revised deadline covers eligible businesses, professionals, firms and other entities subject to the prescribed audit requirements. However, the extension is not applicable to all taxpayers. The regular ITR filing deadline for individuals filing ITR-1 and ITR-2 has already expired. Those who have missed their applicable deadlines may still file a belated return by December 31, subject to the prescribed conditions and late filing fees.

New GST Rules to take effect from November 1

The government will implement changes to select Goods and Services Tax (GST) provisions from November 1, following a notification issued on October 26. The changes relate to the treatment of post-sale discounts and the introduction of faster provisional refunds for businesses dealing with inverted duty structures. These measures, aimed at easing compliance and improving cash flow for businesses.

Fixed Deposit interest rates

Investors looking to park their money in fixed deposits (FDs) should check the latest interest rates before making an investment decision. Several banks have recently revised rates for select tenures, while more changes could be announced in November. However, rate revisions may vary across banks and deposit periods. Investors should compare the latest offerings and check the applicable interest rate for their chosen tenure before booking an FD.
