UP Farmer Faces ₹4.93 Crore Tax Notice Over Allegedly Fake GST Firm; Police Register Fraud Case

A farmer from Sultanpur district, Jagat Pal Yadav, has allegedly become the victim of identity document misuse after receiving a tax recovery notice of ₹4,93,21,047 from Haryana’s Excise and Taxation Department.

Yadav claims he has never operated a business or applied for GST registration. However, the notice reportedly lists a firm named Jagt Traders along with a GST registration number in his name.

According to his complaint, he handed over his Aadhaar card, PAN card and other documents nearly a decade ago after being promised financial assistance under a government scheme. He now suspects those documents were misused to establish a business without his knowledge.

Police have registered a case involving allegations of forgery and cheating, with Sub-Inspector Ravindra Singh assigned to investigate the matter.

Yadav, who supports his family through daily-wage labour and small-scale farming, says he has no means to pay such an enormous amount.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have yet to publicly establish who created the firm or how the tax liability was generated.

The case has raised serious concerns about identity theft, fraudulent GST registrations and the misuse of personal documents.
