The Federation of All Trade and Industry Associations of Erode District (FATIA) has urged the State government to constitute a GST taxpayers’ advisory committee to address the grievances of traders.
At the federation’s general body meeting held here recently, the members adopted 11 resolutions covering taxation, infrastructure, industrial development and civic issues. The federation sought a committee headed by the Chief Minister at the State level and the Collector at the district level to address traders’ grievances. It also urged the government to allow sawmills to renew their license without insisting on a fresh No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board. The federation said sawmills engaged in selling timber for domestic and industrial use did not cause pollution affecting the public.
The federation said property tax in the Erode Corporation was high compared with other corporations and sought its reduction. It also wanted the annual increase in property tax to be kept in abeyance. GST assessment orders, notices and other documents should be sent directly to traders by registered post, it said. The Union government should reduce the GST on textiles from 5% to 3%, it added.
The federation urged the State government to take up a ring road project to ease traffic congestion in Erode and promote industrial development. It also sought removal of encroachments on roads connecting Panneerselvam Park to the railway station via Periyar Nagar and construction of an 80-foot-wide road.
It said waste cotton generated by powerloom units in Veerappanchatram, Manickampalayam and Ashokapuram was not being cleared regularly, posing a health hazard and increasing the risk of fire along roadsides. The Corporation should ensure its daily removal, it said.
