
The state GST intelligence and investigation wing under the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-based joint commissionerate detected tax evasion of Rs 47.37 crore across 17 cases during FY 2025-26, with the manufacturing sector accounting for the largest share of the revenue uncovered.
Official data showed that five investigations in the manufacturing sector led to the detection of tax irregularities worth Rs 22.04 crore. The construction sector recorded the highest number of cases at eight, with revenue detection of Rs 20.34 crore, while four cases involving traders accounted for Rs 4.92 crore.
Although construction sector witnessed the highest number of investigations, manufacturing emerged as the biggest contributor to tax detection by value, the data showed. Together, the manufacturing and construction sectors accounted for over 89% of the total revenue detected during the financial year.
The investigation performance report for FY 2025-26 also showed recoveries of Rs 26.63 crore, including Rs 18.06 crore in cash and Rs 8.57 crore was adjusted through input tax credit (ITC).
Joint commissioner Abhijit Raut said the investigation wing focused on cases involving suppression of turnover, wrongful availing of ITC, fake invoicing, tax evasion and other violations under the GST regime. He said the aim was to protect govt revenue while promoting tax compliance across sectors.
The data indicated a focus on high-value investigations, with the average revenue detected per case exceeding Rs 2.78 crore.
The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar GST commissionerate administers GST across eight districts in the Marathwada region and regularly carries out intelligence-based probes into suspected tax evasion. The latest figures reflect the outcome of investigations concluded and recoveries made during FY 2025-26.
